Edinburgh Fringe 2024 is here! And so is our annual features series. This year, it’s all about REVELATIONS: the gossip, the mysteries, the spies and the moles. Because everyone knows you can’t keep a secret at Edinburgh Fringe…

Bella Humphries is bringing her debut show Square Peg to Edinburgh Fringe. She’s noticed the month-long festival shares some similarities with the menstrual cycle and has a foolproof plan for dealing with it!

By Bella Humphries

What’s four weeks long and can have you bouncing off the walls with joy one week and lying in the foetal position in a pool of your own tears the next? The Edinburgh Fringe! Oh wait, sorry, I meant to say your menstrual cycle. This cruel mistress has somehow managed to align herself with the Fringe’s schedule and (if yours is anything like mine) is going to do her absolute best to ruin your fun.

Now, I’m no expert when it comes to the inner workings of the body, but I am a veteran bleeder who hates to let their period get in the way of enjoying life. And I, like you I’m sure, don’t want to make my way to the biggest arts festival in the world only to be thwarted by a visit from Aunt Flo and the Red Rag Gang. That’s one interactive improv show I will not be buying a ticket to thank you very much.

However, as much as I’d like to ban them from entering the festival altogether, that very much is not the spirit of the Fringe. So, I’ve sorted out a little hack for all the hormonal hunnies out there that just want to get back to enjoying the Fringe and all it has to offer. There are shows to see, silent discos to join and a capella group flash mobs to avoid. So I hereby present…

The Ultimate Playlist for Hormonal Girlies!

Four hours of wall to wall bangers (if I do say so myself) specifically curated to take you through the four phases of your cycle. Whether you need to feel all the feels and have a good cry, scream at the tops of your lungs in a fit of rage, hype yourself up when your body image is the pits or even celebrate the fact that you are finally feeling yourself again, this playlist has it all.

Pop your headphones and enjoy!

Bella Humphries: Square Peg is at Just the Tonic, Mash House (Just the Bottle Room) August 1-25th (not 12th), 6:10pm. Tickets here
